Bio
"The Punk Group’s next album, Make a Rainbow With Your Hands (quick- somebody name their band after this album: Instant wanky indie-rock street cred), is something of a coming-out party for the Portland duo. Not in terms of their sexual orientation, of course, though the album cover leaves room for speculation on that as well. The coming-out party I’m referring to? The Punk Group, in addition to being Devo-esque rock dynamos, are also skilled MCs.
What’s that? You don’t believe me? Then howzabout a quick game of “Who wrote that rhyme TM”?
“With a bass synthesizer/And guitar licks/You know _________’s in the house/And it’s full of chicks.”
Who do you think it is?
The Punk Group?? Yeah, it’s the Punk Group. How did you guess? Oh, the “bass synthesizer/guitar licks” line. I gotchya. Well, yeah, it is. It’s the Punk Group.
And though these guys clearly haven’t listened to a hip-hop album since Paul’s Boutique, the band’s unshakable whiteness (seriously, they are REALLY white) really comes through on this track. Good for them. Get down with your flow-less selves.
P.S. This is the only rap song on the album (sigh), the rest of which is more classic Punk Group fare like “Online Predator” (”Put the cookie in the Cool Whip/I’m an online predator”) and “Black People” (”Black people/White People/Doot doot doot doo”).
